On July 12thGoPro will release their new camera, the GoPro HERO4 Session. Even smaller than previous HERO4 cameras, the Session measures just under an inch and a half wide, and is being marketed as “the most wearable and mountable GoPro ever.”

The Session is 50% smaller and 40% lighter than its predecessor, and will be compatible with a host of new mounting options, including a nifty ankle strap mount, which will really take advantage of the amazing angles that are now possible with such a portable, light camera. Although the HERO4 Session looks vastly different than previous models, it is still compatible with all GoPro mounts, which is great news for GoPro enthusiasts with a collection of previously released mounts. The Session is made to open the door for some creative video making at every imaginable angle.

In addition to decreasing the size of the camera, GoPro has simplified camera operation by replacing the previous two button control features with just one simple button. Pressing the button once will simultaneously power on the camera and start shooting video, while a second press will power off the camera. Holding down the button will also allow for time lapse shooting for 8MP still photos. All other modes and adjust settings will be available via the GoPro App or Smart Remote.

Unlike previous GoPro editions, the HERO4 Session is waterproof without the need for separate housing. The Session will be available in two editions: Standard and Surf. Both will retail for the same price, the only difference in the models is the mounts included in each package. While the Standard will come with 1 curved mount and 1 flat adhesive mount, the Surf comes with a surfboard mount, and an FCS plug mount and tether.

A really cool new feature includes open-air dual microphones (one on the front of the camera and one on the back) that will greatly improve audio performance in the water. The microphones are designed around a draining system that prevents them from getting waterlogged.

Despite its new smaller size, the Hero4 Session will still deliver stunning video quality with a high resolution capture rate of 1440p30 and 1080p60. Also new in this model is the built-in battery, which should last a full two hours while recording in 1080p30.

Additionally, for those in need of some extra assurance against the possibility of losing the Session during an adventurous photo shoot in open water, GoPro will also make available a Floaty case. This bright orange is easy to spot in the water, and it wraps fully around the camera body for extra cushioned protectioned.

The HERO4 Session is an exciting addition to the GoPro line and will be sure to have adventure video enthusiasts excited to explore all new perspectives possible with this tiny powerhouse ofan action cam.
