What is the biggest pitfall when using lens adapters?  This is a simple answer: auto-focus.  Previously, adapters could only mount a lens to a body by way of a machined piece of metal.  While it was great to be able to use glass from one manufacturer on the camera body from another, there was no communication between lens and body and the EXIF data (aperture, shutter speed, date and time of the picture as well as a host of other info) didn’t come across either.

Luckily, these days we have much smarter adapters that can communicate focus, aperture and EXIF data from the lens to the body through the adapter.  The biggest sticking point, however, was that the autofocus, while now available, was so slow as to be almost useless.  This is changing though and fast.  Autofocus is no longer the dream of adapter fans.  Kipon, a brand that puts out a large range of quality adapters, has been making great jumps in the autofocusing times of their adapters.  We at Adorama are the exclusive retailer for Kipon adapters and we proudly carry their large assortment of adapter solutions.

An example of Kipon’s improvements to the world of adapters can be seen in the exciting new release of their High Speed Autofocus adapter which allows Micro Four Third camera owners to have access to the large range of both full frame Canon EF and APS-C Canon EF-S lenses.  If you have Canon lenses and either own or are thinking about getting a Micro Four Thirds camera this may be just the product for you.  If you are in the NYC area, definitely stop by to check out the speed of this adapter.
