Need a shot of inspiration? Facebook has hundreds—nay, thousands—of photography-oriented image-sharing groups on the world’s largest social network…and too many of them are minimally-moderated and frequently veer off topic. We’ve searched FB for well-focused and administered groups that deal with specific areas of photography that you might be interested. Here are five of our current favorites:

Street Photography Vivian Maier Inspired

Vivian Maier perfected her street photography in obscurity for over 50 years, only to be discovered months after her death by an enterprising collector who bought the contents of an abandoned storage unit, sight unseen. Her work, unknown until a few years ago, is now counted as some of the most important street photography of the 20th Century. It has also spawned one of the most popular street photography-related groups on Facebook with over 47,000 members.

Infrared Photography Group

What can you do with an out-of-date camera? Many photographers who have updated their cameras are having their older DSLRs and Mirrorless Compacts converted to Infrared. This group is for those photographers and shows the transformative reality that IR can accomplish, and the results are stunning. If your camera shoots from 590-1000nm, this group of 6,500 members for you.

Portrait Photography

Want to pick up some inspiring portrait photography ideas? Portraits is all they do in this well-curated FB group. From studio setups to grabbed street portraits, the range of images comes from over 11,500 beginners and advanced photographers.

I Love Black & White Photography

The common bond for this group of 13,750-plus members is—you guessed it—a love for black-and-white photography. The group is focused exclusively on members’ original images, not historic ones. The group is quite active, with dozens of new photos posted daily. (Full disclosure: The author of this article started this group.)

Inspire-Digital or Not Fine Art Photography Magazine

With over 94,000 members, this tightly-curated page features “Top 10” photographers in different areas of portrait, landscape, dark gothic, babies, nature, and other narrowly-focused fine-art areas of photographic specialization. There are some real discoveries to be had here.
