DJI Launches New Mini 2 Drone: Its Lightest & Most Portable Drone to Date

DJI is shaking up the aerial photography industry with the launch of the phone-sized Mini 2 Drone, the lightest and most portable drone on the market. The DJI Mini 2 Drone weighs roughly the same as an apple — but a portable size doesn’t mean this drone lacks power. The DJI Mini 2 boasts 4K video resolution and a 4x zoom at 1080p, with RAW and JPEG photo capturing.

Perfect for beginners and travel creators, the Mini 2 Drone comes packed with easily navigable features. Auto take-off and return-to-home ensure the drone flies and lands safely, while the one-minute in-app flight tutorial guides users through key flying functions. From quick-shot modes like boomerang and circle to video transmission distances of up to 10 kilometers, this drone is sure to help new and seasoned creators elevate their aerial photography game instantly. Here are some highlights for the DJI Mini 2 Drone.

DJI Mini 2 Drone

Portability and pristine image quality make the new DJI Mini 2 Drone a must-have for travel and on-the-go creators. The pocket-sized drone, which weighs roughly the same as an apple, captures 4K video and RAW images, and promises a 31-minute maximum flight time. It’s small enough that it doesn’t require registration, yet powerful enough to transmit video up to 10 kilometers. The beginner-friendly Mini 2 Drone — the most portable drone to date — is the perfect gadget for those ready to dip a toe into aerial photography and videography.

DJI Mini 2 Drone Key Features:

  • Lightweight at less than 249 grams
  • Portable and phone-sized build to fit in hiking bags and jacket pockets
  • Small enough to not require registration (in most places)
  • Beginner-friendly features include auto take-off and return-to-home, as well as tutorials and quick-shot modes

  • Maximum flight time of 31 minutes

The lightest and most portable drone to date

With a compact build that’s roughly the size of a phone, the Mini 2 Drone is an obvious and easy kit addition for both new and seasoned creators. The tiny drone weighs less than 249 grams, or half a pound, which means it won’t weigh down luggage or result in lofty baggage fees while traveling.

A pocket-sized drone with impressive results

For a pocket-sized drone, the Mini 2 yields astonishing results. The drone boasts 4K video resolution and 4x zoom recording at 1080p, with 2x lossless zoom and 2x lossy zoom. That means creators can capture gorgeous content without flying too close. When it comes to photography, the impressive features continue. The Mini 2 Drone captures JPEG and RAW photos, as well as panorama modes for 180-degree photos and enhanced image quality for downloaded photos.

The small-but-mighty DJI Mini 2 Drone

The Mini 2 Drone promises more than picture-perfect visuals; its flying power is equally astonishing, particularly given its size. Creators can enjoy video transmission up to 10 kilometers (although the drone must be kept within line of sight), maximum flight times of up to 31 minutes, a wind resistance level five, and a maximum flight speed of 16 meters per second.

The Fly More Combo (which includes a shoulder bag, additional batteries, charging hub, and more) is also available.

As of March 16, 2023, DJI has announced the release of the Mini 2 SE Drone. This model is about $100 less than the Mini 2, and does not offer the advanced video recording capabilities. Therefore, if you are a photographer who is not expecting to shoot much video footage, this is a great option for you. The Mini 2 SE weighs under 249g, has 10km video transmission, 31-minute maximum flight time, and 38kph (Level-5) wind resistance.

The Fly More Combo (which includes a shoulder bag, additional batteries, charging hub, and more) is also available.
