Why the need to change your media production equipment?
Over the past few years, especially with the impact of the pandemic, the business has been transitioning from a traditional broadcast outfit into a web-first company. This has meant making a lot of adjustments in how we produce and sell our services as well as to the equipment we need to do the job.
When I first came into my role a year ago there was a lot of discussion about the cameras that we need – particularly for some of the higher-end corporate work we’re doing where we need to be nimble, but also produce the highest quality output.
From an inventory perspective, my role was to speak to everyone to really understand the media production needs and also the supply and demand. Ultimately, we wanted to move away from the traditional broadcast run and gun mentality to a more modern and creative set-up.
What equipment have you sourced through Adorama Business Solutions to achieve your goals?
One of our main goals was to move from Panasonic to Sony – everyone wants the Sony FX cameras these days because it’s the option in the right price range that really makes sense for the future.
We’re building new kits around the Sony FX6 and Sony FX3 with all the accessories we need, right down to cases and milk crates. I also saw a lot of other gaps that we need to fill with lighting, LED infrastructure and wireless video transmission.
Being able to get almost everything we need for these upgrades in one place from ABS has been a huge benefit that has saved me time and stress. It will also significantly enhance our creative options and the quality of services we provide – and all in a shorter time frame than we might have expected if we’d used different sourcing options.
