A massive announcement has come from Canon this week as they prepare to launch five new camcorders and a new professional display onto the market. Aimed at meeting the needs of a variety of productions, the list of new camcorders includes the Canon XA60 and XA65, XA70 and XA75, HF-G70, DP-V2730, and CR-N700 Professional Camcorders.
Camcorders are often used in more fast-paced environments. This means they need to be reliable in the field. These new cameras will meet the needs of a variety of creators including news stations, documentarians, student filmmakers and even those advancing in more amateur fields. All of these products offer 4K capabilities and image stabilization, but here are some key features and differences in each model.
Canion XA60 and XA65 Camcorders
Features:
- Compact Professional 4k UHD Camcorders
- On-Screen Display “Time Stamp” Recording
- UVC Live Streaming
- Professional Audio COntrols
- 4k 20x Optical Zoom
- Fast, precise focusing with face detection
- XF-AVC and MP$ for flexible recording
Both the XA60 and XA65 provide high quality 4k UHD video inside a compact and fast-paced camcorder. The 4K type CMOS sensor and DGIC DV6 image processor delivers sharp and smooth footage. The key differences between these two models are the size (the XA60 is slightly larger) and the XA60 has an SDI Terminal while the XA65 does not.
These two cameras are geared towards broadcasting schools, governments and agencies, and possibly corporate production companies, but I could see the applications of them being endless. The XA70 and XA75 are very similar.
Canon XA70 and XA75 Camcorders
Features:
- Compact professional 4K UHD camcorder
- OSD “Time Stamp” Recording
- UVC Live Streaming
- 4K 15x optical zoom lens
- Face detection
- XF-AVC and MP4 recording
The XA70 and XA75 feature a one-inch sensor that can record 4K at 30P with Dual Pixel CMOS AF and a 15x optical zoom lens. The lens itself has a built-in three stops ND filter. These are a slightly more advanced version of the above models and are just slightly larger. The digital zoom of the lens boosts the 20x optical zoom to 600x magnification. When you utilize a zoom at that length, it’s important to note the Dynamic IS 5-axis image stabilization that is built into these cameras.
You can record in 4:2:0 8 bit with slow and fast-motion recording available at 60fps/Full HD 30p playback. The XA70 and XA75 are recommended for reporting and documentary-style shooting. Though the XA75 does not have the SDI terminal for professional output, it does have an XLR terminal.
Canon HF-G70 Camcorder
Features:
- Canon 4K sensor
- OSD “TIme Stamp Recording”
- UVC Live streaming
- Face Detection
- MP4 Recording
- Custom Picture menu and audio scene select
The HF-G70 is perfect for advanced amateur filmmakers, wedding videographers and journalists who are still learning their craft. It features a Canon 4K sensor and DIGIC DV6 Image processor. It’s an affordable camera but packs some of the great features that the XA60 and XA65 have as well. The ultra-bright 3.5 inch LCD screen and electronic viewfinder will make it easy to accurately capture footage the way you want to.
Capture smooth footage with the built-in optical and electronic image stabilization. Film in slow motions recording with 5x Full HD as well as fast-motion recording in 4K/Full HD up to 1200x. This camera features an advanced Hybrid AF system with focusing speed adjustable to either fast or smooth AF. Face Detection and Fact Tracking is also available while manual focus is son the focus/zoom ring. If you are a creator wishing to take a big step into the realm of video, this camera is a perfect fit for you.
Canon CR-N700 4K PTZ Camera
Features:
- 4K 60P Image Quality
- 1.0-Type CMOS sensor
- DIGIC DV7 Processor
- 1.5x optical and 30x advanced zoom
- Dual Pixel CMOS AF with EOS iTR AF X
- Region of Interest cropping
The CR-N700 4K PTZ is a professional-level camera that is geared towards high-end broadcast, TV studios, and live events. This is arguably the biggest release of these camera models as it can shoot at 4K 60P 4:2:2 10-bit HDR image quality. This incredible camera has fast and intelligent auto-focusing with DUAL Pixel CMOS AF technology and advanced EOS iTR AF X. The camera itself is actually controlled remotely using a high-precision drive mechanism for fine pan-and-tilt movement.
This camera offers incredible low-light performance. Capture footage in near darkness thanks to the IR Mode, which extends the spectrum visible to the camera. Using Canon Log 3 will give you a wide dynamic range. This will allow you to have more control over the information in post. Arguably one of the most important features is how bright this display can get. The LCD Panel has uniform brightness up to 1,000cd/m2.
