Biggest Features of the Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 17K 65

The Cine 17K 65 is designed from the ground up to carry your vision from set through post-production. It is built with a huge 65mm, 17K RGBW Sensor, 8TB of high-performance storage, and high-speed networking for media upload. The interchangeable mounts PL, LPL, and Hasselblad allow creators a world of lens choices. Blackmagic designed this Cine Camera with post-production in mind and includes DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Large Format 65mm Format RGBW 17520 x 8040 Sensor

Blackmagic has loaded the URSA Cine 17K with an absolutely huge sensor. Building on the technology of the URSA Mini Pro 12k, the Cine 17K 65 offers larger photo sites. This allows an incredible 16 stops of dynamic range. Whether you are shooting in 4K or 17K, this tremendous sensor will deliver unprecedented color and beautifully rendered footage. In addition, the RGBW architecture that provides red, green, and blue pixels in equal amounts ensures amazing color at all resolutions.

Built to Handle Hardworking Set

An amazing sensor alone does not make for a camera that will impress professional crews, and Blackmagic knows that. Consequently, the Blackmagic Design URSA Cine features all the connections working sets need, including Standard Lemo and Fischer for monitoring. Additionally, creators get 12G-SDI out, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, and XLR audio. Because Blackmagic knows sets are in constant motion, the URSA Cine 17K 65 is built to be balanced, lightweight, and rugged. Its construction includes a carbon fiber polycarbonate composite skin wrapped around a magnesium alloy chassis.

Blackmagic RAW

Filmmakers are able to record up to 4 hours in 17K or 20 hours in 4K of RAW footage on the included Blackmagic Media Module 8TB. The RAW files captured with the URSA Cine 17K 65 store all the information creators need. This includes white balance, digital slate information, and custom LUTs. Additionally, the RAW file captures the camera metadata and lens data. All this adds up to the ability to be consistent in post-production.

Optical Low Pass Filter

A high-performance optical low-pass filter (OLPF), precisely matched to the 65mm 17k Sensor, maintains color and detail in your images. This OLPF includes IR filtering, which improves far-red color response.

H.264, Streaming, and More

By creating a small H.264 proxy file that can be uploaded to the cloud near-instantly, the  URSA Cine 17K 65 allows editors to begin work immediately. The Cine 17K loads them directly into the DaVinci Resolve media bin. Seamless integration makes for an incredible turnaround.

The URSA 17K 65 is equipped with a built-in hardware streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT streaming to major platforms or directly to clients. Simply connect to the internet via Ethernet or high-speed Wi-Fi, or even connect a 4G or 5G phone for mobile data.

Who Should Use the URSA Cine 17K 65

The Blackmagic Design URSA Cine 17K 65 Cinema Camera is a versatile tool for high-level professional creators. From features to documentary work, and live streams to remote crews, the URSA Cine is a powerful tool.

Conclusion

From hugely detailed RAW files to easy live-streaming, it seems like there is nothing this new URSA Cine 17K 65 can’t handle. With an interchangeable lens mount and industry-standard connectivity, it will be a snap for any film crew to add this amazing workhorse to their stable.
