Today, Blackmagic introduced a variety of new innovations to help videographers and producers elevate and streamline their work: the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro, the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Live Extreme Production Switcher, the Atem Mini Live Extreme ISO, the Web Presenter HD, and several new software updates.
Let’s jump right into the highlights:
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k Pro
Leveraging insights and technology from its popular Blackmagic Pocket family, the brand’s new Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is truly a gamechanger for on-the-go filmmakers. This camera, the most advanced digital film camera with 6K power, is slightly bigger than previous models. It features similar controls users across the Pocket Cinema Camera family know and love.
Highlights include a new Gen 5 color science for truly dazzling cinematic images, not to mention a large LCD screen for easy focusing and maneuvering. Even better? This 1500-nit LCD is moveable; you can tilt it up and down, which makes shooting during daytime easier than ever. If you’re more of viewfinder user, you can purchase the professional-quality Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF, which is easy to install on the top of the camera. It has a focus adjustment tool underneath the eye piece for seamless focusing. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF is available now for $495.
Another major plus is the camera’s hardy battery. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k Pro works in tandem with Sony’s powerful NPF57 batteries, and you can even purchase a battery grip specific to this model for extensive video sessions; you can shoot with this grip for over three hours. The Blackmagic Pocket Camera Battery Pro Grip is available for $145.
For ultimate customization in the field, Blackmagic’s Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro has built-in ND filters with 0, 2, 4, and 6 stops. You can switch between these through controls on the back of the camera, helping ensure you never blow out those highlights again.
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is available now for $2,495.
(And, any Blackmagic Pocket Cinema user, take note: New software is also coming soon to improve histogram.)
Introducing the new Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Extreme Pro
The ATEM Mini was well received, so Blackmagic decided to build upon its success with a plus-up version of the switcher: the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Live Extreme Production Switcher. This powerful, high-end switcher is slightly larger than the ATEM Mini—but that extra size comes with massive rewards.
For starters, it has eight HDMI inputs, two HDMI outputs, a 12 volt DC input, four advanced chroma keyers, a larger power supply, streaming built-in, support for popular streaming services like YouTube and Switch, not to mention two USB connections and innovative new transitions and controls. The ATEM Mini Live Extreme Production Switcher also has six macro buttons for complex effects.
You can control the cameras using your ATEM Mini Extreme as well, with options to adjust iris, focus, and much more. The switcher’s new Multiview, taken from the ATEM Constellation 8K, is a gamechanger as well, with a 16-way multiview.
The Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Live Extreme Production Switcher is available now for $995.
And, to take your work even further, the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Extreme ISO builds on the ATEM Mini Extreme, but adds nine record streams for simultaneous recording (with the right portable SSD). This guarantees a safe backup of all feeds when it comes to editing time. This Blackmagic Mini Extreme ISO will be available soon for $1,295.
Other news from today’s Blackmagic livestream includes:
- Blackmagic’s new Web Presenter HD: Another feather in Blackmagic’s cap is the new Web Presenter HD, a major update to the existing web presenter from Blackmagic, which will allow everything from streaming to websites using the SDI or HDMI inputs as webcams. This Web Presenter HD is available now.
- Phone-Tethering Update: The ATEM Mini and Mini Pro switchers are now taking livestreaming a step further with phone tethering support via both iPhone and Android. Users can switch between ethernet and mobile phone without livestream disruption; and, you can switch to lower quality or decrease frame rates if the connection isn’t ideal. This is a major plus for creatives working in the field—particularly in more remote locales. This is available via software update on the Blackmagic website; it is free of charge.
