Atomos, makers of professional on-camera and production video monitors and accessories for Canon DSLRs and Panasonic Micro Four Thirds cameras, today introduced the Ninja Inferno, a high-resolution 7-inch HDR calibrated monitor designed as a key part of professional workflow with the Panasonic Lumix GH5 and other 4Kp60 10-bit cameras.

The Atomos Ninja Inferno bypasses the internal recording limitations and takes full advantage of the sensor by recording to the camera’s maximum color accuracy, color resolution, and dynamic range. It delivers 10 stops of dynamic range to match the 10-bit camera LOG footage, revealing detail in highlights and shadows that are usually clipped in final footage. It records and plays out Apple ProRes DNxHR in 4K resolution, 10-bit 4:2:2 color accuracy, and at frame rates of 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60p.

The Inferno includes a high-resolution 7-inch calibrated monitor that they claim offers 1500nit brightness for easy viewing without a hood for outdoor monitoring in the field. In the studio, users drop files directly onto the timeline, using XML tagging from the field. You can even take a PQ/HLG signal from your Mac or PC to use the Ninja Inferno as an HDR grading monitor.

The Ninja Inferno features a rugged case with built-in armor and houses a host of pro-level connectivity options, including full-size HDMI 2.0 for signals up to 4K 60p, an HDMI output for playback or play-out to a viewfinder or other monitors, a hot-swappable dual battery system for continuous power, DC mains connectivity, auto HDMI start/stop recording trigger from selected Canon, Sony, Panasonic and Nikon cameras, and conversion of interlaced video to progressive with built-in 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown.

Audio features include a professional audio monitor and recorder up to 8 channels of embedded HDMI 2.0 24 bit digital audio. An optional 48v stereo XLR breakout cable lets you connect and power external microphones for balanced analogue audio. Audio is controlled via dedicated meters and menus with adjustments for frame delay and gain.

Thanks to its high resolution and brightness (Atmos claims 4x the brightness of conventional field monitors) operators can shoot outdoors without reflections washing out your image. This is an ideal setup for gimbals, Steadicam and director’s monitors. Atomos has partnered with X-Rite for full calibration compatibility with the X-Rite i1DisplayPro.

The Atomos Ninja Inferno is available now from Adorama for $995.
