Atomos is expanding the capabilities of the Shogun 7 with the new, and now available, AtomOS 10.4 firmware update. The switching update allows for multicam switching and recording for up to four separate feeds, and the output of a mixed stream. The free update brings more value and ability to an already cost-effective tool in multicam production.

Key Features:

  • Switch and record among four streams
  • Four 1080/60p ISO SDI streams
  • One recorded switching output with edits
  • XML file for direct information drop into NLE
  • Hard cut or dissolve transitions available
  • 2-channel stereo audio recording from camera feed or through Shogun 7 XLR input
  • ISOs output in Apple ProRes or Avid DNx

Easy, portable multicam switching and recording

Atomos is bringing a convenient, affordable gadget to the often bulky and expensive setup of multicam recording. On a handy, 7-inch screen, users can monitor four separate 1080/60p ISO SDI streams and switch and record among them.  Waveform monitors, peaking, check focus, etc., are available in a single feed.

Shogun includes the options of hard cut and dissolve transitions when bouncing from feed to feed. The sound for your project can come in the form of a 2-channel stereo recording from one of the ISO feeds, or as a 2-channel stereo recording from the balanced XLR input on the Shogun 7 itself. The switches, transitions, and audio are then output to a separate, mixed recording that can be directly dropped into any non-linear editing software for further editing, color correcting, etc. The Shogun 7 outputs an XML file along with the recording to retain all editing information and provide a seamless post-production process.

The Shogun 7 produces five separate recordings — four streams and one mixed output — to a high-performance SSD. Please note, a high-performance SSD is required to handle the simultaneous recordings and multiple outputs. So at the end of a long shooting day, content creators will leave with four individual camera recordings and a synced-up mix that saves precious post-production time.

Beneficial in live productions

The new update is especially helpful when producing a live show or stream. Producers can seamlessly queue up the next shot in their sequence and insert their desired transition. The Shogun 7’s interface is simple and straightforward so users won’t get overwhelmed in a live setting. The production can be output to another source via HDMI, SDI, or both.

The atomOS 10.4 update is now available on the Atomos website for immediate download.
