If you’ve ever wondered what goes on inside the mind of a photographer, the latest series from AdoramaTV brings you up-close-and-personal in an intimate conversation with some of the country’s most talented photographers, format of The Photographer’s Roundtable.
“My work is always been focused on inspiring people, from just getting outside and shooting, to following their passion by making bold choices, this show will be an ultimate representation of that,” says AdoramaTV’s Sal D’Alia, the show’s producer. “People can learn, be inspired, laugh, and feel the struggle of these amazing photographers.”
With a focus on landscape photography, episode one brings you the work and perspectives of five distinct photographers: Chris Burkard (@chrisburkard), Pete McBride (@pedromcbride), Jacob Riglin (@jacob), Erin Babnik (@erinbabnikphotography), and Keith Ladzinski (@ladzinski), hosted by photographer and writer Kishore Sawh (@kishsawhp).
“I’ve been doing interviews for years — one-on-one, panels, on-camera — and every person reacts to the camera and a crowd in a different way, often by creating a persona or by having the guest build up a defensive wall without showing the heart of his words,” D’Alia adds. “A roundtable is the perfect scenario where an artist is surrounded by peers and those protective walls can come down and, you find people who understand the ups and downs and who can inspire them, as well as the audience.”
“Landscape is by far the most saturated style today, it used to be something rare and I love how these photographers bring something different and unique on the style,” D’Alia adds.
Burkard (@chrisburkard) shares his landscape and aerial photography with 3.2 million admirers (and counting), has documented his work in Iceland in his documentary feature, Under the Arctic Sky, and now regularly hosts workshops with aspiring photographers about growing their own craft.
“I think more than anything I want people to realize that all our careers evolved and we became the people or photographers we are today through experimentation and a willingness to try new things,” Burkard tells the Adorama Learning Center. “I felt honest and real and it included some playful banter which is what usually happens when you get a bunch of people like that together. It was unscripted and that allowed us to flow where we wanted it to. I love that style because it feels like a real conversation you have at a diner with your friends late at night.
McBride (@pedromcbride) has been published in National Geographic, is the creative behind The Grand Canyon: Between River and Rim, and a photographer with a love for remote expeditions who in 2016 made the 750-mile journey on foot through the Grand Canyon as part of his film, Into the Canyon.
Riglin (@jacob) has traveled the world, capturing many of the most notable landscapes, skylines, and architecture around the globe. His photo, video, and creative work has led him to pursue the perfect shot, while sharing it with his adventure-ready audience.
“For me, I think the biggest takeaway point that I want anyone to have from [the show] is the realisation that anything is possible if you put your mind to it,” Riglin tells Adorama. “Work hard, grind and hustle in whatever you enjoy doing and you can excel in it. I didn’t think at this time in my career I would get the opportunity to be sat having a conversation with photographers that I am inspired by daily. Yet, I realised while sat there that all of us have the same passion to create and share beautiful imagery, regardless of what level we are at. We are all in a community, expressing ourselves through the same medium but in different ways and it’s empowering to see.”
Babnik (@erinbabnikphotography) has taken her adventure landscape photography to new heights, capturing the textures and intricate details of some of the planet’s most remote locations. As a former art historian, she has developed her eye as a photographer (and now educator, writer, and speaker) to focus on the beauty of world and its terrain.
Ladzinski (@ladzinski), a National Geographic photographer, also serves as director at 3 Strings Productions and has taken to the outdoors, the skies, and underwater to capture the landscapes, animals, and natural wonders of the world.
