Ricoh today provided a tantalizing first look at its upcoming full-frame Pentax-branded DLSR, its first model to feature a 35mm sensor. We tried everything to get information out of Pentax’s reps regarding specifications, but none would spill the beans. So this is all we know: It will have a twist-out (or flip-out) LCD monitor, and a 35mm sensor. Ricoh says the as-yet unnamed camera will be launched in the spring of 2016. For now, these photos of the camera mock-up under glass will have to suffice. Stay tuned!
In other Pentax news, Ricoh has dropped the price of its 645Z medium-format digital camera (you know, the one with the 1/8000 sec flash synch shutter speed) to $6,999.95, and is offering a starter kit (camera body, 55mm f/2.8, 28-45mm f/4.5, and Macro 90mm f/2.8, an extra battery, 2 32GB cards, and Ricoh Advantage Platinum extended 3-year warranty over the camera and 3 lenses) for $15,999.
We also got a first look not only at the DxO One camera for iPhones, but we learned of DxO’s new image capture format, SuperRAW. It sounds like a comic book hero but SuperRAW “stacks” four RAW images together, and the collective information yields finer grain, improved low-light performance, and an increase in dynamic range. It’s only available on the DxO One and DxO’s software, but the company is hoping that camera makers will accept this as a higher-end file format standard that produces greater control and image latitude than flat RAW files.
