This is the 3rd or 4th HP laserjet that I have owned, going back to the early 90s. All of the others worked for years without a problem. This one suffered a hardware failure after just over 2 yrs of service, and we don't print that much. Intermittent failure to boot up fully. Problems with the computer recognizing it. I see that several other reviewers have had similar reliability problems.

I bought a HP LaserJet P3005 printer for office use (one person) in November, 2008 because of its advertised speed and HP's reputation for quality products. In February, 2010, after less than 1 1/2 years of relatively light use, the printer began going into sleep mode when it was left idle for more than a few minutes. In order to continue printing, it had to be turned off and turned back on. Then, when processing a printing job of about 100 copies, it printed fine for about the first 1/3 of the run, then began printing weird characters, like its electronic brain was scrambled. I am very disappointed in the durability/quality of this printer. It was not inexpensive. It cost almost $700 and should have given years and years of good service, as other HP printers that I have purchased have and still do. Do not buy this printer.

I've only had this printer for less than two years and was just told the main board is dead and to replace the whole machine. It worked well until it died.

We bought this printer as a replacement for another long time HP printer. This was supposed to be the exact duty replacement for the previous model. BUT this one didn't last 10 months while the previous printer lasted years. After only 10 months of service this printer is making all sorts of noises and the repairman says it needs gears replaced. The fuser and rollers have already been replaced. This printer might work for someone with a light duty location but if you need a printer that is heavy duty and able to print large quanities, you better look else where!

I have owned my HP3005dn since 2008, and cannot be more pleased. It has great features-- I use it for professional writing and research. It prints front and back; two or four pages per side without a problem. When I finally wear this one out; I will buy another comparable HP model with similar features. I personally prefer black and white over color. There's less waste and it's better for the environment. Highly recommended.

we bought 30 of these, and less than 2 years later, 20 are dead - failed motherboards, fusers, , poor paper handling all plague this unit. stay away!

Most disappointing HP printer I have ever used. The printer has major issues. I have downloaded drivers more than once to try to improve the response from this printer. It stops printing in mid document so often, I keep the printer dialog box open on my desktop. I'm shopping for a new printer because I can't take it any longer.

I've been pleased with this model in itself, but have had mine less than a year, alreay had it repaired once--memory test failure; replace DIMM 0--and it appears the same repair needs to be made again, just 4 months later. Paid more for this printer than any other printer in my office and have had an unforgiveable amount of trouble out of it. The cheaper models have given us no trouble whatsoever.

I have approximately 27 of the P3005N and P3005DN printers. I have sent five of the 27 in for repair under warranty with 4 having formatter problems and 1 having a fuser problem. I have another one that is just out of warranty that I am having repaired because of a formatter problem. If you can find another printer to perform the job you need done I would get it instead of these. I use the 2100, 2200, 2300, 2420 also but this P3005 series is terrible.

Printer has design issues. All paper jams. Loading paper tray jams. I only load 3/.4. I used to switch between single side and double-side printing and it would jam when I switched to double-side.. Now, I print everything double-side and it no longer jams. Trying to reuse paper that has been printed on one-side causes jams. Overall, if the paper jam issues are resolved. It is a good printer.

The printer is good to use for small office. However, the printer was broken just over one year for unknown reason. The service agent provide no serve without charge. Offered a ridiculous exchange with paying 300 more dollars for a new printer. The problem for the current one should be software problem. They made great printers with tricky problems.

When it is working properly it flys. Quality is excellent and the speed is beautiful. Unit is prone to PAPER JAMS. This fact alone reduces any efficiency gained by speed. Paper Jams are frequent and for no apparent reason. push the restart and it works then it doesnt, then it does. Not a consistant machine

So many problem with this printer. Printing error, slow printing, formatter replacement.... so many. Don't buy this printer. You also can go to the support forum to search with keyword "P3005" to see the problems already reported.

Twice the resolution (1200 X 1200 dpi). Most other printers in this price range only produce 600 X 1200 dpi output. Very sharp text and graphics detail. Users who experience problems should try installing the latest drivers from the HP support website. Speed as advertised at 30-35 ppm. I simply love it.

You can't print envelopes or cards at all. You have to feed the printer one envelope at a time. -- (max. if you are lucky 10 will work.) but if you have a big job that means you constantly have to be sitting there and feeding it.. making sure it doesn't jam and it goes in smoothly. When cards are printed -- the printer takes a long rest after each card is printed.-- This is very time consuming. Also the cards need to be fed each one at a time. This printer is also bad for labels. They don't come out straight. And even for regular printing - this printer fails-- According to the specs you can print around 30 ppm. But what use is it -- if after a few pages -- the printer jams.. or just pretends that it is jammed and stops printing.. until the enter key is pressed. The draw tray and the multi-purpose tray which is at angle is not a good idea. The tray should be a straight open tray. The previous models 1300 - wasn't a powerful machine but it worked. Labels, cards, envelopes worked. You should improve on the older machines not fall behind and get even worse. We look forward for better printers from HP.

Printer lifespan limited because of noise and ghost jams. No improvement from similar problems with the 2420dn model.

Our company uses primarily the small business HP printers from the 2100 series to the 3005. The best model in performance is the LJ 2420. I have to give the 3005 a much lower rating than previous models due to performance and quaility issues. The P3005 takes much longer to spool local print jobs and has a much higher failer rate than it predessors. It sometimes takes 5-10 seconds before the P3005 begins to print the job. Replacing LJ P3005 with the LJ 2420, the spool time was much shorter with the same print job. The formatter board has failed in 6 units of about 80 we've purchased in the last 8 months. We are now testing the printers before we ship them to our satellite offices just to make sure they work since 3 of those 6 units did not work out of the box. The print quality is still very good and have had no issues with paper feed, or print quality.
